London Olympic basketball stadium is recyclable

The temporary basketball stadium used in the London Olympics this year was built from 1,000 tons of steel. Not only is it mobile, but it is also relatively lightweight. After its use, the stadium will be deconstructed and shipped elsewhere.

According to Dennis Hone, Chief Executive of the Olympic Delivery Authority, “It makes a lot of sense, especially if you want to take the Games beyond the richest cities in the world. To do that, you’ve got to bring the costs down.”

He hopes that buildings like the basketball stadium can make hosting for the Olympics a more realistic option for more countries.
