As with any holiday, Toronto has many great events planned. Participate in the festivities this Easter but be sure to do all of your shopping prior to joining the celebration – many businesses across the city will be closing up shop this weekend. Let’s take a look at some of the Easter events planned for 2013 and what will be opened/ closed this holiday:
Easter Events 2013
Eggstravaganza Toronto Zoo
Families and friends will be welcomed to the zoo by Panda Mascots, Er Shun and Da Mao, who will be dressed up and ready for pictures. Once inside of the gates, follow the path to different pavilions and discover many unconventional eggs on display in the animals’ habitat. The event will take place on Friday between 9:30am and 5pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for kids.
Easter Chocolate Tour
Chocolatiers will be serving Easter desserts to Torontonians in Trinity Bellwoods Park on Saturday afternoon. Be sure to stick around after you’ve had a few treats and watch the wonderful presentations that have been put together to teach you about the history of chocolate. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for kids.
Easter Sweets Tour
Kensington Market will celebrate this holiday by serving Easter treats to locals walking through the markets on Sunday afternoon. Tours begin at 11:30am at the Ding Dong Bakery. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for kids.
Toronto’s Vintage East Parade
Don’t expect floats – this is a pedestrian parade organized by the Bees’ Knees Dance Studio. To participate in the city walk, meet at Younge and Bloor on Sunday at 1:30pm.
Toronto Beaches Lions Club Easter Parade
On Sunday afternoon, join the 50,000 other Torontonians who will march from Munro Park to Woodbine Avenue in celebration of an old east-end Easter tradition.
Casa Loma’s Easter Brunch
Toronto’s famous castle will be hosting a mid-morning feast on Sunday, between 10:30am and 1pm.
What Will Be Open
- Stores in the Eaton Centre will be running on an irregular schedule this weekend. On Good Friday shopping hours will be 10am to 6pm. Similarly, on Easter Sunday stores will be open between 12pm and 5pm. Regular hours will resume on Monday.
- Pacific Mall is opened all weekend!
- T&T Supermarket, Arora Foods, Food Depot, Rabba grocers, and Bruno’s will stay open all weekend.
- The AGO will be letting people in on Friday but not on Monday.
- Most businesses in the Distillery District will continue business as usual over Easter.
- Theatres across the city will operate on restricted schedules but should be stay opened.
- If you rely on public transportation to get around, take note that the TTC will run on a holiday schedule for Good Friday. Go Transit will implement their regular Sunday schedule for services on Good Friday.
- Government offices, including schools and postal offices, will be closed Friday to Monday
- Banks will be closed all weekend.
- Toronto Public Libraries will be closed on Friday and Sunday but will open doors on Saturday.
- The Beer Store and LCBO will be closed Friday and Sunday.
- Most grocery stores, with the exception of those mentioned above, will be closed on Friday and Sunday.
- The following malls will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday: Square One, Vaughan Mills, Sherway Gardens, and Yorkdale.
