Did you know that our city’s first cab company was established by Thornton Blackburn,
an escaped slave from Southern Kentucky during the height of American slavery?
Mr. Blackburn and his wife escaped to Toronto via the Underground Railroad, and not only left a historical footprint in our city by establishing Toronto’s first horse-drawn cab company, but helped others fleeing captivity along the way.
